The entertainment programme is particularly varied, with regular karaoke, drag performances, themed parties, live music and the occasional silent disco. There's an outdoor patio with a performance stage, plenty of comfortable space to socialise and a kitchen serving food late into the night. The bar also has a reputation for its creative infused shots and colourful cocktails. Buddies Denver

This friendly Capitol Hill neighbourhood bar offers a relaxed alternative to Denver's larger clubs, with welcoming bartenders, affordable drinks and a sociable crowd that includes plenty of bears and their admirers.
The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, making Buddies a great place to meet locals, catch up with friends or settle in for a leisurely afternoon. There's satisfying pub food from the kitchen, regular drink specials and a lively weekend programme that includes its popular beer busts. Sunday afternoons are particularly worthwhile, when charity beer busts support local LGBTQ+ organisations. Sunday drag brunch is the main event, featuring glamorous performances and a lively crowd that knows how to celebrate. On quieter evenings, the stylish dining room and spacious garden patio make it an equally appealing choice for a date or pre-nightlife dinner. It's conveniently located right next to X Bar, so you can move easily from cocktails and food to a bigger night out.
X BAR
Dancing, Drag, Outdoor Seating
Big on energy and always ready for a party, X Bar is one of Denver's most popular LGBTQ+ nightlife destinations. Located on East Colfax, this lively multi-level venue attracts a wonderfully mixed crowd with DJs, dancing, drag entertainment and plenty of opportunities to let your hair down.
One of its biggest attractions is the spacious outdoor patio, where you can relax with cocktails, meet friends and enjoy a little people-watching before heading back inside. The upstairs Glow Lounge provides a different atmosphere, with darker lighting and a dedicated dance space, while regular drag competitions, bingo and themed parties keep the entertainment varied. It's particularly popular with a younger crowd at weekends, but everyone is welcome. Whether you're starting your night with drinks or planning to dance until closing time, X Bar delivers a reliably fun Denver experience.
Trade
Bear, Fetish, Cruising
For a taste of Denver's leather, bear and fetish scene, Trade is one of the city's essential gay bars. Located in the Santa Fe Arts District, this welcoming venue has built a loyal following among bears, pups, leather enthusiasts and men who enjoy a more adventurous night out, without making newcomers feel out of place.
The atmosphere is sociable and refreshingly unpretentious, with friendly bartenders, affordable drinks and a spacious covered patio that's popular throughout the year. Regular themed events provide plenty of variety, including underwear nights, beer busts, karaoke and gatherings for different parts of the fetish community. The crowd changes depending on the evening, so it's worth checking the calendar if you're looking for a particular scene. Trade is especially appealing for men who enjoy a relaxed bar atmosphere with a slightly cruisier edge than Denver's mainstream gay venues.

4* Kimpton Monaco Denver
Boutique, City Centre
Kimpton Monaco is one of the nicer choices if you want to stay Downtown but would rather avoid the corporate-conference-hotel feel. The interiors are colourful and contemporary, the atmosphere is relaxed, and Kimpton’s nightly social hour gives the lobby a genuinely sociable feel in the early evening.
The Champa Street location puts 16th Street, restaurants and Downtown sights within easy walking distance, while Union Station and LoDo are also straightforward to reach. That works particularly well if you want to move between different neighbourhoods rather than base the whole trip around Capitol Hill.
The gay bars are a short journey away, but you’ll have plenty of places for dinner or a first drink closer to the hotel.

4* Renaissance Denver Downtown

The Renaissance earns its place for the building as much as the location. It occupies the beautifully restored former Colorado National Bank, complete with huge vaulted ceilings, historic murals and old bank-vault details — considerably more interesting than your average Marriott.
You’re right in Downtown, with 16th Street around the corner and LoDo, Union Station, Coors Field and plenty of bars and restaurants all accessible on foot. That makes evenings easy even when you aren’t heading specifically to the gay scene.
Capitol Hill is further east, so expect to use a rideshare or public transport for X Bar, Charlie’s and the other Colfax venues.
GayMapper tip: a strong central choice if you like historic buildings but still want the convenience and predictability of a full-service hotel.
2* Urban Cowboy Denver
Near Gay Nightlife, Boutique
Urban Cowboy is a small, adults-only boutique hotel in Capitol Hill, set inside a wonderfully characterful Victorian mansion just off Colfax.
The location works particularly well for an LGBTQ+ weekend: X Bar is only a few blocks away, other queer venues are easy to reach, and the surrounding streets are packed with cafés, restaurants and neighbourhood bars. That means you can spend much of the weekend on foot rather than constantly heading back Downtown.
The rooms are individually designed and decidedly romantic, with bold interiors and copper soaking tubs, while the Public House downstairs is a popular spot for cocktails and pizza even if you’re not staying at the hotel.
GayMapper tip: a great choice for couples who want something intimate, memorable and genuinely close to the gay scene.
4* Grand Hyatt Denver
Luxury, City Centre
Grand Hyatt works well if you want an upscale Downtown base without getting too precious about it. You’re close to 16th Street, restaurants and shopping, with the rest of central Denver easy to explore on foot or by public transport.
The hotel is large, but there are a couple of touches that make it less anonymous than that sounds — particularly the rooftop jogging track and tennis/pickleball court, plus Rocky Mountain views from some of the higher rooms. Recent guest ratings are also consistently strong.
You won’t be walking out of the lobby straight into Denver’s gay scene, although Capitol Hill and Colfax are close enough that heading there for the evening is easy.
GayMapper tip: a comfortable step up if you want Downtown convenience and plenty of space, but your Denver plans extend well beyond the nightlife.
4* Sheraton Denver Downtown
GayMapper Favourite, Near Gay Nightlife
Sheraton remains our Denver favourite largely because the location gets the balance right. You’re firmly Downtown, but at the Capitol Hill end of the centre, so the gay bars around Colfax are considerably easier to reach than from hotels further towards Union Station.
There’s plenty happening immediately around the hotel too, with 16th Street, restaurants and shopping outside and light rail nearby. The Sheraton itself underwent a major transformation and now feels much more contemporary than its old big-convention-hotel reputation might suggest.
The year-round heated rooftop pool is a nice bonus, especially with Denver’s ridiculous number of sunny days.
You can walk to parts of the LGBTQ+ scene and still have Downtown sightseeing on the doorstep.
GayMapper tip: still our best all-rounder if you want central Denver during the day and easy access to Capitol Hill at night.
4* The Art Hotel Denver
Boutique, City Centre
The gay friendly ART Hotel Denver, Curio Collection by Hilton is a particularly good fit if museums and neighbourhood exploring appeal more than staying amongst Downtown office towers. It sits in Denver’s Golden Triangle, almost opposite the Denver Art Museum and close to the State Capitol, galleries and several good restaurants.
As the name rather gives away, art is central to the hotel itself too, with a substantial contemporary collection running through the public spaces. FIRE’s terrace is also a pleasant place for a drink when the weather cooperates.
Capitol Hill begins just beyond the Golden Triangle, so the Colfax gay bars are walkable if you don’t mind a bit of a stroll, while Downtown is equally easy to reach in the other direction.
GayMapper tip: a good choice for an LGBTQ+ city break where culture, neighbourhood restaurants and nightlife all feature rather than just the bars.
