Budget

CABINN Copenhagen is one of the better options if keeping accommodation costs down is more important than staying right beside Copenhagen’s main sights and gay nightlife. It’s a large, modern budget hotel south of the city centre, close to Fisketorvet shopping centre and the waterfront.

The cabin-inspired rooms make very efficient use of space — which is another way of saying they’re small — but all have private bathrooms, TV and tea and coffee facilities. The hotel also has a 24-hour reception, breakfast and self-service laundry facilities.

Central Station and Tivoli are reachable on foot, but the gay bars around Studiestræde are further away, so this isn’t the hotel to choose if nightlife location is your priority.

GayMapper tip: one for the budget-conscious traveller — simple, compact and no-frills, but often considerably cheaper than staying right in central Copenhagen.

Hotels you might like in Copenhagen

5* 1 Hotel Copenhagen

5* 1 Hotel Copenhagen

1 Hotel Copenhagen, formerly known as Hotel Skt. Petri, brings a distinctly Scandinavian take on five-star luxury to the Latin Quarter, with a nature-inspired design and a location that works particularly well for gay travellers. Studiestræde and the main gay bars are within easy walking distance, while Strøget, the Round Tower and many of the central sights are equally close. Rooms use natural and locally sourced materials, with a calm, contemporary feel rather than traditional grand-hotel styling. There’s also PÆRE Dining Room and PÆRE Bar, plus fitness and wellness facilities. GayMapper tip: one of the best choices if you want proper five-star luxury without giving up easy access to Copenhagen's gay scene.

4* Ascot Hotel

4* Ascot Hotel

Ascot Hotel has a location that's almost tailor-made for a GayMapper recommendation: it sits directly on Studiestræde, the street at the heart of Copenhagen's traditional gay area. The hotel occupies a characterful historic building and offers smart, contemporary rooms rather than full-on boutique theatrics. Tivoli, City Hall Square and Strøget are all just a few minutes away, while Copenhagen Central Station is comfortably walkable. Most importantly for a night out, you can simply head along Studiestræde towards the gay bars rather than worrying about trains, taxis or late-night navigation. GayMapper tip: location is the star here — particularly if you want sightseeing during the day and the gay bars within stumbling-home distance at night.

2* CABINN City

2* CABINN City

Copenhagen isn't famous for cheap hotel rooms, which is where CABINN City earns its place. The hotel is just behind Tivoli and around five minutes from Central Station, putting you in a much handier position than the CABINN Copenhagen previously featured on GayMapper. There is a catch: the rooms really are small, with compact bathrooms and cabin-inspired layouts very much part of the concept. If you're bringing half your wardrobe for a weekend away, this probably isn't the one. If you mainly want a clean, central base and would rather spend your money elsewhere, however, it does the job. GayMapper tip: good for a short, budget-conscious stay — but book it knowing that compact means genuinely compact.

3* Generator Copenhagen

3* Generator Copenhagen

Generator Copenhagen is a good option if you'd rather keep accommodation costs down without heading out to the suburbs. It's near Kongens Nytorv, putting Nyhavn, Strøget and the central sights within easy walking distance. You can choose between private rooms and hostel-style accommodation, while the large bar and communal areas give the place a much more sociable feel than a conventional budget hotel. Regular events add to the atmosphere, so this can work particularly well for solo travellers. The gay bars around Studiestræde are on the other side of the centre rather than immediately nearby, but Copenhagen is compact enough that getting there isn't difficult. GayMapper tip: a sociable budget choice for travellers who value location and atmosphere more than hotel frills.

4* Boutique Hotel SP34

4* Boutique Hotel SP34

Hotel SP34 sits in Copenhagen's Latin Quarter, just around the corner from Studiestræde, making it one of the strongest additions to the GayMapper hotel list. The look is unmistakably Nordic but not overly serious, with individually designed rooms, relaxed social spaces and an urban terrace. There are restaurants and bars on site, and Brøchner's complimentary wine and nightcap hours provide a rather civilised start — or finish — to an evening out. The central location also puts Strøget, Rådhuspladsen and Nørreport within easy walking distance. GayMapper tip: probably the best choice on the list if you want boutique style and genuinely easy access to Copenhagen's gay nightlife.
