4* Paramount House Hotel

Paramount House Hotel is a great fit if you want to stay somewhere that feels unmistakably Sydney rather than choosing an international chain. Set in the former headquarters of Paramount Pictures in Surry Hills, it combines industrial heritage with one of the city’s best neighbourhoods for food, coffee and nightlife.
Rooms make the most of the building’s original character, with exposed brick, timber, concrete and large windows mixed with comfortable beds and stylish modern bathrooms. Different room categories vary quite a bit in size and layout, which adds to the hotel’s individual feel.
Downstairs, Paramount Coffee Project is one of the area’s best-known cafés, while the wider Paramount House complex also includes excellent dining and the wonderfully atmospheric Golden Age Cinema. Guests can also access nearby rooftop fitness and yoga facilities.
Oxford Street’s gay bars are around a ten-minute walk away, while Central Station and Crown Street are similarly close.

Tucked into a quiet Surry Hills side street, Crystalbrook Albion feels wonderfully removed from the city rush, yet Oxford Street’s gay nightlife is still comfortably walkable. It’s a great choice if you want to be close to the action without hearing it when you’re trying to sleep.
The hotel occupies a beautifully restored former convent and has just 35 rooms, each combining heritage details with colourful contemporary design. Rooms vary in size and character, with higher categories adding features such as freestanding baths and extra living space.
There’s free Wi-Fi, smart TVs and a 24-hour host team, plus an honesty bar stocked with drinks and snacks. The rooftop garden is one of the hotel’s nicest spaces, giving you somewhere peaceful to sit outside above the surrounding Surry Hills rooftops.

For gay travellers who like boutique hotels with a strong sense of place, Albion feels much more personal than a conventional five-star stay.
4.5* Vibe Hotel Sydney
Vibe Hotel Sydney is a good-value choice if you want to stay close to Oxford Street without paying the premium that often comes with Sydney’s boutique and five-star hotels. Its Goulburn Street location puts the gay nightlife around Darlinghurst within an easy walk, while Hyde Park, Chinatown and the CBD are also close by.
Rooms are spacious and contemporary, with air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, minibars, safes and large TVs. There’s also a fitness centre and an outdoor rooftop pool, which is a definite bonus during Sydney’s warmer months.
The hotel’s Storehouse restaurant and bar serves breakfast and casual meals, and Museum Station is nearby for straightforward airport connections and travel around the city.
Vibe keeps things fairly simple, but that’s part of its appeal: you get a comfortable four-star room, useful facilities and a location that works well for both sightseeing and nights out.

Central Station, Hyde Park and Chinatown are all nearby too, making Ace especially handy if you want both Sydney nightlife and easy access to the rest of the city.
