If gay nightlife is a big part of your Dallas plans, Warwick Melrose makes life very easy. You’re in Oak Lawn and only a few minutes’ walk from JR’s, Round-Up, Station 4 and the rest of the Cedar Springs strip — no waiting for a rideshare at the end of the night and no trying to remember where your hotel is at 2am. What we particularly like is that you don’t have to compromise on the hotel itself to get that location. The Melrose is a handsome 1920s landmark with proper character, and The Library bar has long been a Dallas favourite for cocktails and live music. There are also plenty of everyday cafés and restaurants scattered through Oak Lawn. Downtown sightseeing needs a short ride, but that feels like a fair trade if your evenings are centred here. GayMapper tip: still our favourite Dallas all-rounder for LGBTQ+ travellers — close to the action without feeling like you’ve booked a hotel purely because it happens to be near the bars.
Virgin is probably the most openly playful hotel in the Dallas selection. It sits in the Design District and regularly runs a proper programme of events — including drag brunches — while the rooftop Pool Club has DJs at weekends and a noticeably more social atmosphere than the average hotel pool. The surrounding Design District is good for galleries, restaurants, coffee and design shops, although it’s not the sort of neighbourhood where every Dallas attraction is outside the front door. Uptown, Downtown and Cedar Springs are all straightforward rideshares away. That location is the trade-off: you lose walkability to the gay bars but gain a hotel that can feel like part of the weekend rather than simply somewhere you return to at 2am. GayMapper tip: particularly good for a sociable weekend with friends, or if your definition of a quiet hotel bar doesn’t involve quite so much quiet.
Fairmont makes most sense if your Dallas plans extend well beyond Cedar Springs. It sits in the Arts District, with the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Klyde Warren Park and several performance venues practically on the doorstep. That also means there’s plenty within walking distance during the day, while nearby DART stations make this one of the easier parts of central Dallas to explore without relying completely on rideshares. When you do want a gay night out, Oak Lawn is only a short car journey away. The Fairmont itself is more classic big-city hotel than trendy boutique, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want: experienced service, plenty of space and somewhere comfortable to retreat to after a full day out. Its a large nature preserve and hike and bike trail. The trails are well well worn and wind throughout over 5 acres of thick woods which has many off the path areas for seclusion from vehicles and residences. Action anytime day or night, but more likely at night once the bikers and hikers have left. Head west on W Illinois Avenue off S Hampton Road, then turn left on Pierce St. Just before a sharp right turn on Pierce, you will see a sign and a road that leads to an apartment complex turn left on it. You will see the park on the right. There are two parking areas and it's the second one you should head to.

The woods are part of the Katy walking trail. The hill by the woods is a dismantled railroad with the tracks removed. The wooded area at the base of the hill near the creek is one of the hot spots in Dallas, especially in the summer when all the brush is overgrown. It's a varied crowd, usually people from the bars walk down there for some action. Best time to go is usually after dark, but there is more going on after midnight, thought the park is closed at 2300. Be aware that Police sometimes work undercover.

Take the Hampton Road exit from I-30 and head to the corner of Colorado Blvd. and Plymouth Road. The park's parking lot is cruisy and there are trails which follow the creek in both directions and it's along these most of the activity occurs. Attracts both straights and gays with most action after dark.

It is one of the few places to cruise in Dallas. The crowd is very varied in age and background. Interested parties can wait in the parking lot with their windows down, so see if you catch anyone's eye, exercising caution as always. : Young and old. Professional and red neck, blue collar. The cruisiest spots are apparently around 1200 noon at the baseball park, then after 5pm at the north east end of park, in and around the parking lots. The park is patrolled, it is not a good idea to go into the woods, except after dark.
