Le Consulat could hardly be better placed for an LGBTQ+ weekend in Lisbon. It overlooks Praça Luís de Camões, with Bairro Alto beginning almost outside and Chiado spreading downhill towards the river. Downstairs, the spa includes an indoor pool and water circuit — useful if Lisbon’s hills have been taking their revenge on your legs. Restaurants and neighbourhood bars around Príncipe Real are close by, so you can easily have a good evening without heading into the busier Bairro Alto streets. Villa 3 Caparica is a completely different Lisbon experience. It’s adults only, and the international crowd gives the place much more of a holiday-resort feel than you’ll find at a city hotel in Bairro Alto. Central Lisbon requires a drive or taxi, so this works best when the beach is the main event rather than something you might squeeze in between museums. Larger suites have kitchens and separate living space, which is particularly handy if you’re staying for more than a weekend. Upstairs, the rooftop restaurant looks across the city towards the castle and Tagus — a very easy place to lose track of whatever dinner reservation you’d planned elsewhere.
