Only YOU is an excellent option if you want Chueca on your doorstep but prefer sophisticated boutique-hotel style to an overtly party-focused stay. Occupying an elegant former palace on Calle Barquillo, the hotel sits right on the eastern edge of Chueca, so the neighbourhood’s gay bars, restaurants and shops are only a few minutes away. Inside, the design is stylish without becoming stiff, and the public spaces are particularly good. There’s an excellent cocktail bar, restaurant, lounge areas and a 24-hour gym, while room service is available around the clock. One particularly welcome touch is the flexible breakfast concept, useful if Madrid nightlife has resulted in a rather late start to the day. Gran Vía, Cibeles and the shopping around Fuencarral are all close by. This isn’t marketed specifically as a gay hotel, but its location, atmosphere and cosmopolitan clientele make it a very natural choice for LGBTQ+ visitors wanting something a little more grown-up.

Dear Hotel sits at the Plaza de España end of Gran Vía, a little farther from Chueca than most of our Madrid recommendations, but earns its place thanks to its combination of style, facilities and an excellent city-centre location. The main attraction is upstairs. The 14th-floor rooftop has a guest pool, sun deck, Sky Bar and Nice to Meet You restaurant, with panoramic views across Madrid. Rooms are bright and contemporary, with air-conditioning, soundproofing, high-speed Wi-Fi, minibar and tea and coffee facilities. Plaza de España metro is almost outside the hotel, while the Royal Palace, Malasaña, Callao and central shopping are all easily walkable. Chueca is still reachable on foot or in a few minutes by metro. Dear Hotel makes most sense for gay travellers who want nightlife accessible rather than literally outside the front door — and who regard a rooftop drink overlooking Madrid as a fairly essential part of a city break.

Catalonia Gran Vía Madrid works particularly well if you want a very central hotel with good facilities but don’t necessarily want to sleep directly in the middle of Chueca. Its Gran Vía location places the gay neighbourhood just a few streets behind the hotel, while Sol, Cibeles and the Prado area are also easily reached on foot. A major attraction is the rooftop terrace and outdoor pool overlooking central Madrid — very welcome during the city’s hot summer months. There’s also a fitness area, restaurant, bar and breakfast buffet, while some higher room categories offer terraces or additional outdoor space. The hotel occupies an attractive early 20th-century building but the rooms themselves are contemporary, with air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and modern entertainment facilities. This is a particularly good compromise if one traveller is primarily interested in Chueca nightlife while the other wants sightseeing, museums and shopping. Everything is close, but you aren’t quite sleeping on top of the party.

Petit Palace Chueca gets one very important thing absolutely right: location. It is on Calle Hortaleza, one of Chueca’s main streets, with Gran Vía only a few steps away and much of Madrid’s gay nightlife within an easy stroll. The historic building was fully renovated in 2025, and rooms are contemporary and comfortable rather than extravagant, making this particularly useful for travellers who would rather spend their budget enjoying Madrid. You don’t get a rooftop pool or full-service spa, but that is rather missing the point here. H10 Villa de la Reina is a particularly easy hotel to recommend for a Madrid city break and one of GayMapper’s favourite choices in the city. Hostal San Lorenzo is a great choice if you want to stay right by Madrid’s gay scene without paying typical Chueca hotel prices. It sits on Calle del Clavel, just a few steps from Gran Vía and firmly within the Chueca neighbourhood, putting the area’s gay bars, restaurants and cafés within an easy walk. Despite the “hostal” name, this is a substantial three-star property rather than a basic backpacker-style hostel. Rooms all have private bathrooms, air-conditioning, heating, free Wi-Fi and TVs, while some exterior rooms also have balconies. There’s a 24-hour reception, luggage storage and buffet breakfast, giving it most of the practical facilities you need for a straightforward city break. The location is particularly useful for sightseeing too, with Sol, Cibeles and much of central Madrid reachable on foot. Hostal La Zona is one of the best budget choices in Madrid for gay travellers who care more about location, friendliness and value than having full hotel facilities. You get a welcoming, gay-focused place to stay in an exceptional location without paying Chueca’s increasingly ambitious hotel prices.

Vincci The Mint is one of those hotels that feels very Madrid: stylish, slightly playful and right in the middle of everything. Its address at Gran Vía 10 puts you only a few minutes south of Chueca, making it easy to dip into the gay scene while also being perfectly positioned for Sol, Cibeles and central Madrid’s shopping. The interiors have plenty of personality, but one of the biggest attractions is The Mint Roof, a relaxed seasonal rooftop terrace with city views, drinks, snacks and its own food truck. It is ideal for that first drink before heading into Chueca. Rooms have a contemporary design and include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, minibar and coffee-making facilities. Sevilla and Gran Vía metro stations are both close, although you can walk to an enormous amount from here. Vincci isn’t specifically an LGBTQ+ hotel, but for gay travellers who want a chic central base without staying directly above the nightlife, its location is extremely hard to fault.

If having a noticeably gay atmosphere matters as much as the location, Axel is the obvious Madrid choice. Part of the LGBTQ+-focused Axel Hotels group, it feels more like somewhere to socialise than simply somewhere to sleep, with a rooftop Sky Bar and pool plus the downstairs Bala Perdida bar, which regularly hosts entertainment and drag. Rooms mix contemporary design with the rather grand surroundings of a historic Madrid building, while there’s also a gym and massage treatments if you somehow find time between sightseeing and nightlife. The hotel sits on Calle Atocha in Barrio de las Letras rather than Chueca itself, but that location works surprisingly well: Sol, Plaza Mayor and the Prado area are easily walkable, while Chueca is around a 15-minute stroll away. This works particularly well for gay travellers who value hotel facilities and a more polished stay but still want Chueca comfortably walkable rather than needing to take the metro home at the end of the night.

NH Collection Madrid Suecia is a strong choice when you want something more upscale without disappearing into Madrid’s quieter luxury-hotel districts. This five-star property sits beside the Círculo de Bellas Artes, between Gran Vía and Paseo del Prado, with Chueca, Huertas and Sol all within comfortable walking distance. The rooms are bright and contemporary, with free Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines and smart modern bathrooms, while higher categories add terraces and impressive city views. Facilities are particularly good for a central Madrid hotel: there’s a fitness room, restaurant, the Ático Casa Suecia rooftop terrace and an atmospheric cocktail bar downstairs. Breakfast is a substantial buffet, room service is available, and the Prado, Thyssen, Cibeles and Retiro are all nearby. Gay travellers get the advantage of being close enough to walk into Chueca for drinks while still enjoying the comforts and service of a proper five-star hotel. It’s more sophisticated than scene-focused — somewhere to retreat to after the party rather than continue it downstairs.

Few Madrid hotels could be better positioned for gay nightlife than Room Mate Óscar. It sits directly on Plaza de Pedro Zerolo in Chueca, meaning some of the neighbourhood’s gay bars are quite literally outside the front door and dozens more are within a few minutes’ walk. The hotel itself suits the setting: colourful, contemporary and deliberately fun rather than formal. Its biggest attraction is La Terraza de Óscar, a rooftop with a seasonal swimming pool, loungers, bar and excellent views across central Madrid. Rooms are modern and air-conditioned, Wi-Fi is free, and breakfast is served until noon — an extremely civilised arrangement after a late night in Chueca. Gran Vía is just around the corner, while Sol, Retiro and Madrid’s main shopping streets are all easily walkable.
