Spending the night in prison sounds considerably more appealing at Långholmen Hotell. This former 19th-century jail has been transformed into an unusual hotel where the old cells are now compact guest rooms, complete with private shower rooms, Wi-Fi and plenty of original prison character. The island setting is another reason to stay. Långholmen is green and peaceful, with walking trails and a small bathing beach right outside the hotel — a lovely bonus during Stockholm’s warmer months. There’s also a restaurant serving Swedish food, a bar and the fascinating prison museum. Hornstull’s restaurants, bars and metro station are around ten minutes away on foot. Stockholm’s main LGBTQ+ venues are further east across Södermalm and in Gamla Stan, but easy to reach by public transport.
