3* Residence Inn Downtown

Residence Inn by Marriott Vancouver Downtown, Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada

3* Residence Inn Downtown

Great Value, City Centre

Having your own kitchen makes a surprising difference on a longer city break, and every studio at Residence Inn by Marriott Vancouver Downtown comes with a fully equipped kitchenette alongside a proper seating area. A complimentary hot breakfast is also included, so it’s particularly good at keeping everyday costs under control in an expensive city.

There’s an indoor pool and whirlpool, an outdoor terrace and a 24-hour fitness centre. The Hornby Street location places you between Downtown and the West End, with Yaletown, the waterfront and Granville Street easily accessible. Davie Village, Vancouver’s main LGBTQ+ neighbourhood and home to most of the city’s gay bars, is around a ten-minute walk west.

GayMapper tip: Particularly useful for longer stays — the kitchenette, breakfast and laundry facilities make it much easier to settle in rather than live out of a hotel room.

5* Fairmont Pacific Rim

5* Fairmont Pacific Rim

Harbour and mountain views are very much part of the experience at Fairmont Pacific Rim. Sitting beside Canada Place on Vancouver’s waterfront, this contemporary five-star hotel combines serious luxury with a noticeably more modern, creative personality than a traditional grand hotel. The rooftop pool terrace is a highlight in warmer weather, while the substantial Fairmont Spa and fitness centre make staying in equally tempting. Botanist is the flagship restaurant, and the Lobby Lounge & RawBar has developed into one of Vancouver’s better-known spots for cocktails, sushi and live music. Art installations and rotating exhibitions appear throughout the building. Stanley Park, Gastown and the seawall are all particularly accessible from here. Davie Village’s main LGBTQ+ nightlife is across Downtown, so allow around ten minutes by taxi or rideshare. GayMapper tip: Leave time for the hotel itself — between the spa, rooftop pool, art and live music, this is much more than somewhere to return to after sightseeing.

5* The Sutton Place

5* The Sutton Place

There’s something reassuringly old-school about The Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver. While many newer luxury hotels chase minimalist design, this one sticks with a more traditional European feel, complete with rich fabrics, polished service and a proper cocktail lounge. Vida Spa provides massages and wellness treatments, with additional leisure facilities including an indoor pool and fitness centre. Food is another strong point: Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is one of the hotel’s centrepieces, while Gerard Lounge is good for an evening drink without having to head straight out. You’re close to Robson Street shopping and the Vancouver Art Gallery, with most of central Downtown comfortably walkable. Davie Village and its concentration of gay bars are about a ten-minute stroll southwest. GayMapper tip: Choose Sutton Place if your idea of luxury is classic rather than ultra-modern — and make time for dinner at Boulevard rather than treating the restaurant as an afterthought.

4* L'Hermitage Vancouver

4* L'Hermitage Vancouver

Small-scale luxury is the appeal at L'Hermitage Hotel Vancouver. Rather than feeling like a huge international hotel, it combines polished service with residential-style rooms and suites in a very central position at Robson and Richards. The heated outdoor saltwater lap pool and hot tub are open year-round, with a garden terrace providing somewhere surprisingly peaceful above the Downtown streets. There’s also a 24-hour gym, while the larger suites include fireplaces and extra living space. Italian marble bathrooms and bathrobes add a suitably upscale touch across the rooms. Vancouver City Centre SkyTrain is only a few minutes away, with the art gallery, shops and Yaletown easily reached on foot. The main LGBTQ+ bars of Davie Village lie around a 15-minute walk towards the West End. GayMapper tip: A particularly good choice when you want something quieter and more personal than Vancouver’s big luxury hotels while keeping an extremely central address.

5* Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

5* Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

Independent, family-owned and with only 83 rooms and suites, Wedgewood Hotel & Spa offers a much more intimate version of five-star Vancouver. It has been part of Relais & Châteaux for years, and its recently refurbished accommodation combines elegant furnishings with private balconies on many room categories. Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge is an atmospheric spot for dinner, cocktails or afternoon tea, while the spa includes treatment rooms, couples suites, a relaxation lounge and eucalyptus steam room. There’s also a fitness centre. The position opposite Robson Square puts shopping, the Vancouver Art Gallery and central Downtown right outside. Davie Village and the city’s principal LGBTQ+ nightlife are around a 10–15 minute walk away, while the waterfront is easily reached in the other direction. GayMapper tip: One of Vancouver’s nicest choices for a special occasion — small enough to feel personal, but still offering the restaurant, spa and service you’d expect from a serious luxury hotel.

4* Belmont Vancouver

4* Belmont Vancouver

This isn’t the Vancouver hotel for an early night. Hotel Belmont Vancouver - MGallery Collection embraces its Entertainment District setting with colourful mid-century-inspired interiors, neon artwork and a lively social atmosphere that continues well beyond reception. The Living Room combines restaurant and cocktail bar, while The Basement downstairs operates as a bar and nightclub. Rooms themselves are compact but cleverly designed, with Nespresso machines, wireless charging and device casting among the useful extras. The building dates from the early 20th century, but the overall feel is deliberately contemporary and playful. Granville Street nightlife is right outside and Yaletown is nearby. Vancouver’s specifically LGBTQ+ nightlife is concentrated further west around Davie Village, around a 15-minute walk away. GayMapper tip: Best suited to people who actively enjoy being in an entertainment district — the bars and late-night energy here are part of the experience rather than something the hotel tries to hide.
