Popular Bars in Dallas

JR's Bar & Grill

JR's Bar & Grill

There's always something happening at JR's, one of the liveliest and longest-established gay bars on Dallas's Cedar Springs strip. Open since 1980, this sprawling neighbourhood institution combines daytime food and drinks with a party atmosphere that gets increasingly energetic as evening approaches. The multi-level layout offers plenty of places to explore, from sociable bars and video screens to a dance floor and outdoor seating. The upstairs balcony is particularly popular, providing excellent views of the crowds along Cedar Springs and the famous rainbow crossing below. Regular DJs, drag entertainment and themed events keep things interesting, while the kitchen serves satisfying American bar favourites. Whether you're meeting friends for lunch or starting a big night out, JR's is an essential stop in the gaybourhood.
Hidden Door Inc

Hidden Door Inc

If you like your gay bars friendly, unpretentious and full of local character, Hidden Door is a Dallas institution that's well worth seeking out. Tucked away on Bowser Avenue, this longstanding neighbourhood favourite has been welcoming gay men and their friends since 1979, with a particularly strong following among bears and mature visitors. The atmosphere is refreshingly relaxed, with reasonably priced drinks, friendly bartenders and plenty of opportunities to strike up a conversation. Darts and pool provide a little entertainment, while the spacious outdoor patio is a major attraction, particularly during the bar's legendary Sunday afternoon beer busts. Hidden Door is a great alternative to the louder Cedar Springs clubs, especially if you prefer somewhere sociable where making new friends comes naturally.

ReView Lounge

ReView Lounge

Just across the road from Dallas Eagle, ReView Lounge is a lively gay bar that combines a friendly neighbourhood atmosphere with plenty of entertaining distractions. It's a great option for visitors who want to explore Dallas's LGBTQ+ nightlife beyond the main Cedar Springs strip, particularly if they enjoy drag, dancers and sociable evenings. The programme changes throughout the week, with karaoke, DJs, drag performances and male dancers keeping the atmosphere varied. Cocktails and reasonably priced drinks are central to the experience, while themed events and special parties attract a fun mix of regulars and visitors. There's an informal, welcoming feel that makes it easy to drop in for a drink or stay for the entertainment. With Dallas Eagle so close, it's particularly convenient for combining two very different gay venues in one evening.
Alexandre's

Alexandre's

If your ideal gay night out involves excellent cocktails, live music and a friendly atmosphere rather than a packed dance floor, Alexandre's is one of Dallas's standout choices. This intimate Cedar Springs favourite has built a loyal following for its talented performers, welcoming bartenders and a slightly more sophisticated take on neighbourhood nightlife. Music is a big part of the attraction, with regular singers, musicians and themed entertainment creating a wonderfully sociable atmosphere. The cocktail programme is another highlight, offering carefully made classics alongside creative house favourites. Alexandre's also has a kitchen serving comfort food, making it a particularly good choice for dinner and drinks before exploring the wider gaybourhood. It's an easy place to spend an entire evening, especially if you appreciate a good conversation between performances.
The Grapevine Bar

The Grapevine Bar

Wonderfully eccentric and proudly unconventional, The Grapevine Bar has been one of Dallas's favourite LGBTQ+-friendly hangouts since 1996. After nearly three decades on Maple Avenue, this much-loved dive bar moved to a larger home in the Medical District, bringing its colourful decorations, laid-back atmosphere and famously mixed crowd along for the ride. The new location has plenty of the character that made the original so popular, including mismatched furnishings, quirky artwork and an outdoor basketball court. Drinks are reasonably priced, the crowd spans different ages and identities, and the atmosphere is refreshingly free of attitude. It's particularly appealing for an afternoon drink, a casual date or an evening with friends who appreciate somewhere a little different. Don't leave without trying one of the bar's famously strong frozen Tangaritas.
