For gay travellers who want to stay genuinely within the neighbourhood rather than merely “near Schöneberg”, the location is hard to beat.

If you want your hotel to be part of the gay Berlin experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep, Axel remains one of the most obvious choices. It sits on Lietzenburger Straße beside Schöneberg’s Rainbow District, with many of the bars around Fuggerstraße and Motzstraße within a few minutes’ walk. The adults-only hotel has a distinctly social atmosphere and contemporary rooms with the bold black-and-gold styling associated with Axel. There’s a gym and rooftop wellness area with jacuzzi, sauna and hammam. KaDeWe and Wittenbergplatz are just around the corner, while the U-Bahn makes getting to the rest of Berlin straightforward.
