Music, theatre and museums rather than shopping streets define the setting at Backstage Hotel Stockholm. Formerly Pop House Hotel, it sits on Djurgården beside ABBA The Museum and close to Gröna Lund, Cirkus and many of Stockholm’s biggest cultural attractions. Downstairs there’s a relaxed brasserie, bar and café, making this an easy place to linger after a day exploring Djurgården. You’re away from Stockholm’s main LGBTQ+ nightlife in Gamla Stan and Södermalm, but trams, ferries and buses make getting back into the centre straightforward. Spending the night in prison sounds considerably more appealing at Långholmen Hotell. This former 19th-century jail has been transformed into an unusual hotel where the old cells are now compact guest rooms, complete with private shower rooms, Wi-Fi and plenty of original prison character. The island setting is another reason to stay. Långholmen is green and peaceful, with walking trails and a small bathing beach right outside the hotel — a lovely bonus during Stockholm’s warmer months. There’s also a restaurant serving Swedish food, a bar and the fascinating prison museum. Hornstull’s restaurants, bars and metro station are around ten minutes away on foot. Stockholm’s main LGBTQ+ venues are further east across Södermalm and in Gamla Stan, but easy to reach by public transport. Few Stockholm hotels make arriving from the airport this painless. Nordic Light Hotel is just around the corner from Central Station and roughly 100 metres from the Arlanda Express, making it particularly handy for a short city break or an early departure.
