Tangerine

Tangerine

Elefantengasse 11, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

For a proper old-school gay pub experience, Tangerine is one of Frankfurt's most appealing little discoveries. This longstanding neighbourhood favourite on Elefantengasse has a wonderfully traditional character, with friendly regulars, an informal atmosphere and walls decorated with an eclectic collection of celebrity autographs.

The drinks are straightforward, with beer, wine, spirits and the inevitable local Äppelwoi taking priority over elaborate cocktail creations. It's the kind of bar where conversation comes easily and a quick drink can turn into a much longer evening, especially once the regulars settle in. The crowd spans different ages, and visitors are welcome, although the atmosphere feels distinctly local rather than tourist-oriented. Smoking is permitted indoors, so bear that in mind if you prefer smoke-free venues. A lovely alternative to Frankfurt's louder gay music bars.

Popular Bars in Frankfurt

Na Und

Na Und

Sometimes the best gay bars are the ones where there's no pressure to do anything except enjoy yourself, and Na und is exactly that kind of place. Tucked away on Klapperfeldstraße, just a short walk from Frankfurt's main gay nightlife district, this traditional neighbourhood pub offers affordable drinks, friendly service and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The crowd is predominantly mature gay men, with plenty of local regulars who prefer conversation over loud music and crowded dance floors. The rustic interior and welcoming bartenders give it the easy-going feel of a classic German Kneipe, making it especially appealing for an afternoon beer or a leisurely evening. Visitors are welcome, although the atmosphere is much more local than tourist-oriented. An excellent choice if you enjoy meeting people and discovering the quieter side of a city's gay scene.
Lucky's

Lucky's

A genuine Frankfurt gay institution, Lucky's combines the welcoming atmosphere of a neighbourhood pub with a lively programme of entertainment. Tucked into the Arabella Passage near Konstablerwache, this friendly bar attracts a mixed-age crowd, including plenty of bears and their admirers, alongside locals who have made it a regular meeting place. Lucky's is particularly appealing during the afternoon, when you can settle in for coffee, cake or a relaxed beer before the evening crowd arrives. Tuesday karaoke is a popular tradition, while the regular Bear Lounge gatherings are a highlight for Frankfurt's bear community. There are also drag performances, themed events and plenty of opportunities to make new friends. It's refreshingly unpretentious, with a traditional bar atmosphere and a convenient location for exploring the rest of Frankfurt's gay nightlife district.
Bar Central

Bar Central

Small, stylish and full of character, Bar Central is one of Frankfurt's most enjoyable LGBTQ+ cocktail bars. Hidden away on Elefantengasse, just around the corner from the main gay nightlife strip, this intimate venue has been bringing people together for decades with excellent drinks, a friendly atmosphere and a refreshingly mixed crowd. The bartenders take their cocktails seriously, serving carefully prepared classics and creative house favourites in surroundings that feel relaxed rather than pretentious. The compact interior makes it easy to strike up conversations, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights when the bar can become wonderfully busy. Bar Central attracts gay men, women and their friends, with a sociable atmosphere that's particularly appealing for couples or small groups. Smoking is permitted indoors, which is worth considering if you prefer a smoke-free environment.
PINK

PINK

Bright lights, pop anthems and a crowd that's always ready to party make PINK one of Frankfurt's liveliest gay bars. Located right on Alte Gasse, this compact venue attracts a predominantly younger gay male crowd, with neon lighting, a small dance floor and an energetic atmosphere that gets increasingly lively as the evening progresses. The music is a big part of the appeal, with DJs and playlists packed with mainstream pop, dance remixes and familiar party favourites. It's particularly busy on Friday and Saturday nights, when the dance floor fills up and there's often a queue outside. PINK is an excellent choice if you're looking to meet people, enjoy a little flirting or dance without committing to a large nightclub. Expect a warm, crowded atmosphere later in the night, and be aware that smoking is permitted indoors.
Switchboard

Switchboard

Few places capture the community spirit of LGBTQ+ Frankfurt quite like Switchboard. Founded in 1988 and operated by AIDS-Hilfe Frankfurt with the help of enthusiastic volunteers, this much-loved café-bar on Alte Gasse is far more than somewhere to enjoy a drink. It's a welcoming meeting place where locals and visitors come together through food, conversation, entertainment and shared experiences. The menu includes traditional regional specialities, homemade soups, quiche and delicious cakes, while the atmosphere is refreshingly relaxed and friendly. There's a lovely courtyard garden for warmer days, and the changing events calendar offers everything from karaoke and bingo to live music, exhibitions, film screenings and community gatherings. Sunday afternoons are particularly appealing for coffee and homemade cake. Whether you're travelling alone or with friends, Switchboard is an excellent place to discover the more sociable, community-focused side of Frankfurt's LGBTQ+ scene.
Comeback Bar & Lounge

Comeback Bar & Lounge

When Frankfurt's other gay bars start winding down, Comeback is often where the night continues. This lively LGBTQ+ bar on Alte Gasse combines the friendliness of a neighbourhood pub with a small dance floor and a distinctly late-night personality, making it a popular stop in the city's Bermuda Triangle. Earlier in the evening, Comeback is a relaxed place for drinks and conversation, with friendly bartenders and a wonderfully mixed crowd. As the night progresses, the music gets louder and the atmosphere becomes more energetic, particularly on Friday and Saturday when dancing takes centre stage. Expect everything from R&B and house to pop and party favourites, depending on the evening. With its central location and famously late opening hours, Comeback is an excellent choice if you're not quite ready to call it a night.
