Comeback Bar & Lounge

Comeback Bar & Lounge

Alte G. 33, 60313 Frankfurt am Main-Innenstadt I, Germany

When Frankfurt's other gay bars start winding down, Comeback is often where the night continues. This lively LGBTQ+ bar on Alte Gasse combines the friendliness of a neighbourhood pub with a small dance floor and a distinctly late-night personality, making it a popular stop in the city's Bermuda Triangle.

Earlier in the evening, Comeback is a relaxed place for drinks and conversation, with friendly bartenders and a wonderfully mixed crowd. As the night progresses, the music gets louder and the atmosphere becomes more energetic, particularly on Friday and Saturday when dancing takes centre stage. Expect everything from R&B and house to pop and party favourites, depending on the evening. With its central location and famously late opening hours, Comeback is an excellent choice if you're not quite ready to call it a night.

Popular Bars in Frankfurt

Bar Central

Bar Central

Small, stylish and full of character, Bar Central is one of Frankfurt's most enjoyable LGBTQ+ cocktail bars. Hidden away on Elefantengasse, just around the corner from the main gay nightlife strip, this intimate venue has been bringing people together for decades with excellent drinks, a friendly atmosphere and a refreshingly mixed crowd. The bartenders take their cocktails seriously, serving carefully prepared classics and creative house favourites in surroundings that feel relaxed rather than pretentious. The compact interior makes it easy to strike up conversations, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights when the bar can become wonderfully busy. Bar Central attracts gay men, women and their friends, with a sociable atmosphere that's particularly appealing for couples or small groups. Smoking is permitted indoors, which is worth considering if you prefer a smoke-free environment.
Switchboard

Switchboard

Few places capture the community spirit of LGBTQ+ Frankfurt quite like Switchboard. Founded in 1988 and operated by AIDS-Hilfe Frankfurt with the help of enthusiastic volunteers, this much-loved café-bar on Alte Gasse is far more than somewhere to enjoy a drink. It's a welcoming meeting place where locals and visitors come together through food, conversation, entertainment and shared experiences. The menu includes traditional regional specialities, homemade soups, quiche and delicious cakes, while the atmosphere is refreshingly relaxed and friendly. There's a lovely courtyard garden for warmer days, and the changing events calendar offers everything from karaoke and bingo to live music, exhibitions, film screenings and community gatherings. Sunday afternoons are particularly appealing for coffee and homemade cake. Whether you're travelling alone or with friends, Switchboard is an excellent place to discover the more sociable, community-focused side of Frankfurt's LGBTQ+ scene.
Zum Schwejk

Zum Schwejk

If you want to experience a proper traditional German gay pub, Zum Schwejk is a Frankfurt institution that's well worth discovering. This wonderfully old-fashioned bar on Schäfergasse combines a cosy, eccentric interior with friendly regulars, plenty of beer and an atmosphere that can become surprisingly lively as the evening progresses. German Schlager and familiar singalong favourites provide much of the soundtrack, with an enthusiastic crowd that's often happy to join in. The clientele spans different ages, although mature gay men are particularly well represented, and the bar attracts a loyal local following. Weekends can get extremely busy, especially when the music and celebrations are in full swing. There's outdoor seating during warmer weather, while the traditional interior is welcomingly informal, although smoking is permitted. Zum Schwejk is a great choice for anyone who appreciates old-school gay nightlife with plenty of personality.
Krawallschachtel

Krawallschachtel

If you enjoy discovering gay pubs with genuine history and plenty of local character, Krawallschachtel is a Frankfurt institution worth seeking out. Housed in a remarkable building dating back to 1526, this traditional bar has a distinctly old-fashioned personality that feels a world away from the polished cocktail lounges nearby. Inside, the atmosphere is cosy, smoky and wonderfully unpretentious, with a predominantly mature gay male crowd and a loyal collection of regulars. This is somewhere for a straightforward beer, conversation and the occasional card game rather than elaborate cocktails or a busy dance floor. The bar stays open exceptionally late on many evenings, making it a useful option for night owls who prefer company to clubbing. A great little piece of Frankfurt's traditional gay pub culture, although non-smokers should be prepared for the atmosphere.
Na Und

Na Und

Sometimes the best gay bars are the ones where there's no pressure to do anything except enjoy yourself, and Na und is exactly that kind of place. Tucked away on Klapperfeldstraße, just a short walk from Frankfurt's main gay nightlife district, this traditional neighbourhood pub offers affordable drinks, friendly service and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The crowd is predominantly mature gay men, with plenty of local regulars who prefer conversation over loud music and crowded dance floors. The rustic interior and welcoming bartenders give it the easy-going feel of a classic German Kneipe, making it especially appealing for an afternoon beer or a leisurely evening. Visitors are welcome, although the atmosphere is much more local than tourist-oriented. An excellent choice if you enjoy meeting people and discovering the quieter side of a city's gay scene.
TWIST Bar

TWIST Bar

For a lively LGBTQ+ night out away from the main gay bars around Alte Gasse, TWIST brings a fresh party atmosphere to Frankfurt's Alt-Sachsenhausen district. Reopened in its current location in 2025, this stylish venue combines modern surroundings, colourful cocktails and an energetic soundtrack with a welcoming, predominantly younger crowd. The contemporary interior features dark furnishings, atmospheric lighting and space for dancing, with DJs playing everything from pop and 90s favourites to house and electronic music. Friday and Saturday nights are particularly lively, while themed events and occasional drag-hosted entertainment add extra variety. It's compact enough to feel sociable but has plenty of energy once the music gets going. TWIST is a good choice if you enjoy discovering newer queer nightlife venues rather than sticking exclusively to traditional gay pubs.
