Tangerine

Tangerine

For a proper old-school gay pub experience, Tangerine is one of Frankfurt's most appealing little discoveries. This longstanding neighbourhood favourite on Elefantengasse has a wonderfully traditional character, with friendly regulars, an informal atmosphere and walls decorated with an eclectic collection of celebrity autographs. The drinks are straightforward, with beer, wine, spirits and the inevitable local Äppelwoi taking priority over elaborate cocktail creations. It's the kind of bar where conversation comes easily and a quick drink can turn into a much longer evening, especially once the regulars settle in. The crowd spans different ages, and visitors are welcome, although the atmosphere feels distinctly local rather than tourist-oriented. Smoking is permitted indoors, so bear that in mind if you prefer smoke-free venues. A lovely alternative to Frankfurt's louder gay music bars.

PINK

Bright lights, pop anthems and a crowd that's always ready to party make PINK one of Frankfurt's liveliest gay bars. Located right on Alte Gasse, this compact venue attracts a predominantly younger gay male crowd, with neon lighting, a small dance floor and an energetic atmosphere that gets increasingly lively as the evening progresses. The music is a big part of the appeal, with DJs and playlists packed with mainstream pop, dance remixes and familiar party favourites. It's particularly busy on Friday and Saturday nights, when the dance floor fills up and there's often a queue outside. PINK is an excellent choice if you're looking to meet people, enjoy a little flirting or dance without committing to a large nightclub. Expect a warm, crowded atmosphere later in the night, and be aware that smoking is permitted indoors.

German Schlager and familiar singalong favourites provide much of the soundtrack, with an enthusiastic crowd that's often happy to join in. The clientele spans different ages, although mature gay men are particularly well represented, and the bar attracts a loyal local following. Weekends can get extremely busy, especially when the music and celebrations are in full swing. There's outdoor seating during warmer weather, while the traditional interior is welcomingly informal, although smoking is permitted. Zum Schwejk is a great choice for anyone who appreciates old-school gay nightlife with plenty of personality.
Bar Central

The bartenders take their cocktails seriously, serving carefully prepared classics and creative house favourites in surroundings that feel relaxed rather than pretentious. The compact interior makes it easy to strike up conversations, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights when the bar can become wonderfully busy. Bar Central attracts gay men, women and their friends, with a sociable atmosphere that's particularly appealing for couples or small groups. Smoking is permitted indoors, which is worth considering if you prefer a smoke-free environment.
Na Und

Na Und

Sometimes the best gay bars are the ones where there's no pressure to do anything except enjoy yourself, and Na und is exactly that kind of place. Tucked away on Klapperfeldstraße, just a short walk from Frankfurt's main gay nightlife district, this traditional neighbourhood pub offers affordable drinks, friendly service and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The crowd is predominantly mature gay men, with plenty of local regulars who prefer conversation over loud music and crowded dance floors. The rustic interior and welcoming bartenders give it the easy-going feel of a classic German Kneipe, making it especially appealing for an afternoon beer or a leisurely evening. Visitors are welcome, although the atmosphere is much more local than tourist-oriented. An excellent choice if you enjoy meeting people and discovering the quieter side of a city's gay scene.
